This book by Paul Freire was originally published in 1968. Freire was a Marxist, and his conviction that the shortcomings of the educational system were inextricably tied to the inequality and injustices of the capitalist system is threaded throughout the book. He believed that radical social change was very possible within situations of deep oppression and that true teaching and learning was an interplay, where students, especially those with lived experience of poverty, had an essential part to play.
