The Zero COVID Campaign

The UK must aim to eliminate Covid-19. To do this it must close unsafe workplaces, support self-isolation and run Test and Trace locally in the public sector.

We aim to build a movement to force policy makers in the UK to adopt a Zero Covid strategy to eliminate the virus. Whilst the UK suffers in a cycle of surge and lockdown other countries have applied Zero Covid policies – we can do the same.

Capitalism's boom and bust (more bust than boom these days) and the UK's stop-start roadmap only hurt working class people disproportionately more, whether in income lost or avoidable loss of life. This campaign refuses to allow government to hide behind the headlines.

Some parents desperately need to get back to work and can't whilst their children are at home. Many parents are struggling to cope with home school supervision and support whilst managing the increased workloads of the crisis from home. Many of our school staff, not just teachers, are concerned that insufficient protections have been put in place for a Big Bang return of all kids and staff to the classroom at once.

The NEU is lobbying government not just on a safe return for staff and the wider community, but for a properly thought-out support plan by government for parents, so that no one has to return to work and put themselves at avoidable risk for poverty wages and so our kids have the standard of IT and support they deserve without burning staff and parents out further.

Just Fair's campaign for the adoption of the Socio-Economic Duty by Government.

JustFair are campaigning for the adoption of Section 1 of the Equality Act 2010 which introduces a socio-economic duty on public bodies that requires them:

‘when making decisions of a strategic nature about how to exercise its functions’ to ‘have due regard to the desirability of exercising them in a way that is designed to reduce the inequalities of outcome which result from socio-economic disadvantage.’

Public bodies are asked to consider how their decisions and policies could increase or decrease inequality that results from socio-economic disadvantage.

Despite being passed by UK Parliament in 2010, successive UK governments have refused to bring Section 1 into force.

Eviction ban extension or not, the crisis is systemic - we need to be organised

Allison Fewtrell is working to address the continuing rise in eviction notices levied at tenants during the COVID pandemic and a call for greater security for tenant's rights.

Shelter's "Stop No DSS Discrimination" Campaign

A lack of sufficient social housing has forced working-class people and their families into long-term dependency on rip-off landlords.

Shelter's campaigns include fighting evictions, fighting for protections for people still living with dangerous cladding, fighting against unfair housing debts and rogue landlord practices.
